Contact Energy's savvy use of waste silica 
Ohaaki Power Station have built a brand new plant to extract the silica from geothermal fluid, to use in the construction industry, to make golf clubs and even medical implants. The project is a partnership between SBC member Contact Energy, Geo40 and Ngāti Tahu. 
IAG gearing up for action on climate 
IAG Australia have published their Climate Action Plan, covering IAG in both Australia and New Zealand. They have introduced science-based emission reduction targets which will be achieved through a focus on reducing emissions from energy use and fleet. 
SBC submission on Zero Carbon Bill
We have published our submission on the Zero Carbon Bill, as provided to the Ministry for the Environment. It reflects that members want to work closely with government, academia and community groups to develop a vision for the transition.

World energy leaders to meet in Wellington 
The BusinessNZ Energy Council (BEC) and the World Energy Council (WEC) will host their biennial Energy Leaders’ Summit from October 31 to November 1. WEC Secretary-General Christoph Frei says three interrelated topics are challenging the sector: the need to decarbonise, the opportunity to decentralise, and the advantage of digitalising the production and consumption of energy.  
Elections for Advisory Board + FLP Alumni 
Nominations for the SBC Advisory Board and Future Leaders' Alumni representative have now closed, and voting will run until 8 August. The results will be announced at SBC's Annual Council Meeting on 15 August. More information on voting has been sent to Council members.
