Transport tech sector could earn $1.5bn
Intelligent transport systems could be a sunrise tech industry for NZ, earning up to $1.5 billion a year, a new report by Deloitte Access Economics, BusinessNZ and MoT has found. The report identifies the enormous potential to develop and manufacture intelligent transport systems like self-driving cars and drones. Read more.
3R making a dent in bumper waste
3R Group estimates more than 360,000 car bumpers are dumped in landfills in NZ every year. The company is hoping to make a dent in this issue with its new depot in Christchurch, which turns old bumpers into plastic mulch that can be used to make new products. Read more.
BMW accelerates electric car R&D
Since 1995, BMW Group has reduced CO2 emissions from its new car fleet in Europe by 42 per cent. In Berlin, its chairman says the reduction shows the company's e-mobility strategy is successful. Meanwhile, news reports suggest BMW will boost its EV research and development spending.
New online tool for Māori landowners
Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research has launched a new Māori land visualisation tool, to help Māori land owners make more informed decisions about how to use their land. It aims to "support whanau and fulfil and balance economic and cultural potential”.
Waste Minimisation Fund
Associate Environment Minister Eugenie Sage has announced the next funding round for the Waste Minimisation Fund, from May 1 to 14. The key focus is circular economy projects, so if you have an initiative that eliminates waste and pollution, keeps products and materials in use, or regenerates natural systems check it out.
SKYCITY partnership for diversity
SKYCITY has partnered with Global Women, as part of its commitment to diversity and inclusion. Global Women aims to change the face of business so it is as diverse as NZ itself. SKYCITY CEO, Graeme Stephens, says “I’m a strong advocate for greater diversity and inclusion and believe in the value this brings to our business in gender, ethnicity and culture.”

Bringing together business, government, civil society and tertiary institutions to work on ideas for delivering the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 in NZ.
