New way to fund trees, offset emissions 
Trees That Count has launched a community marketplace, which enables businesses and individuals to support native tree planting throughout New Zealand. They have a range of options for businesses who want to get behind their national campaign to plant millions more native trees. Find out more
New tyre shredding technology
Waste Management has opened a new tyre recycling facility in Auckland, which will boost its ability to recycle tyres by a whopping 250 per cent, or the equivalent of three million tyres a year. The facility and its new technology from the USA was funded in-part by the Waste Minimisation Fund. 
Turning waste toner into roading
Fuji Xerox and Downer will soon be testing the use of photocopier waste toner in the construction of NZ roads, as a substitute for bitumen. The alternative asphalt has a higher recycled content and reduced carbon footprint. The trial comes as Fuji Xerox launches its Product Stewardship Roadmap for NZ businesses. Fulton Hogan from Fiji to North Canterbury  
Fulton Hogan Hiways employee Raymond Kant has stolen the headlines in Fiji, talking about his skyrocketing career in engineering and move from the Pacific Island to NZ. The 26-year-old is now working in North Canterbury as a Transport Infrastructure Rebuild site engineer. He credits his success to the training and support of his Fulton Hogan managers and his parents. 
Women, Maori and youth most optimistic
A Westpac survey has found NZ’s most optimistic business leaders are young, female or Māori. 55% of respondents under 35 expect business conditions to improve, compared to 41% of 35-59 year olds. Māori, Indian and Asian respondents are more confident about the future than those who identify as European. More here.
Unilever's sustainable brands skyrocket
Unilever reports its 'sustainable living' brands have seen four years of consecutive growth, which last year grew 46 per cent faster than the rest of their business and delivered 70 per cent of the company's turnover growth. The results were announced at Unilever NZ's round-table discussion last week, where more than 90 business, NGO and government leaders met to discuss the Sustainable Development Goals. 
New paint system protecting environment
The introduction of a waterborne paint system at Toyota NZ’s Thames-based Signature Class plant is saving the company $40,000 a year and improving the environment. The switch to waterborne paint in two booths has resulted in a 50 per cent reduction of solvent use and a 35 per cent reduction in energy use. 
Top tips to tell your sustainability story 
As environmental and social concerns swell, Edie.net has published an interesting article about sustainability story-telling. It says, "Sustainability practitioners must be able to communicate across different business functions to ensure that a strategy is embedded, understood and acknowledged - including at a boardroom level."

Carbon Footprints 101
