EMBARK: achieving low emissions together
Registrations are now open for the first EMBARK event on 24 July in Auckland. Decisionmakers from medium to large businesses will be able to meet providers of low emissions solutions and hear Climate Leaders Coalition signatories talk about how they are transitioning to low emissions. Please promote this event to your networks. 
Farms, forests and fossil fuels
The Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment has released a report outlining a different approach to climate change planting, with recommendations around forestry and how different gases are treated. See the response from Minister Shaw as well as comment from Fonterra to Stuff, and a statement from Z Energy
Reporting award open for voting
Fonterra's Sustainability Report 2017 is the only New Zealand report shortlisted in the prestigious CR Reporting Awards 2019, in the Best Report and Openness & Honesty categories. NZ members of Corporate Register can vote on the website
Better Futures, better storytelling
Following the launch of the Colmar Brunton Better Futures report, NZ Ecolabelling Trust spoke to Radio NZ and NZ Business on how businesses can promote their sustainability work more. And the launch videos are now available on the SBC website. 
Introducing Jay Crangle 
We are delighted to welcome Jay Crangle to the team as our new Events and Training Manager. Jay has returned to the land of Tim Tams after 10 years in the UK. She’s looking forward to supporting the capability building of our members, helping us connect and collaborate at both our on and offline events. 
Mercury steps into wind
Mercury will build 33 wind turbines at Turitea near Palmerston North, which will be New Zealand's third-largest wind farm. This adds wind power to its portfolio of renewable energy generation, which already contains hydro, geothermal and solar. 
One-stop shop for rural recycling 
The Associate Minister for the Environment Eugenie Sage has announced the launch of the New Zealand Rural Waste Minimisation Project. Agrecovery Board Chairperson, Adrienne Wilcock, outlined how the project will offer nationwide events for farmers to sustainably dispose of waste all in one go.  
Greener office for Fujitsu 
When Fujitsu moved to a new office in Auckland, it wanted to reduce its impact on the environment. Since the move, energy use has been cut by 64%, 24 tonnes of CO2e been saved annually, and more than 8,250kg of eWaste diverted from landfill. Read the case study

Noodles a winner for Stuff
The Night Noodle Markets event series won the Best Sustainable Event category at the New Zealand Event Association Awards this week. Eco packaging and efficient waste management systems helped divert over 2/3 of the waste generated from landfill. Mmmm, noodles.

Entries for the inaugural NZ Rainbow Excellence Awards close on April 5. We hope to see many of our members who already have the Rainbow Tick recognised, like Contact Energy, as well as event supporters Westpac, Fletcher Building, Z Energy, SKYCITY and Lion.
