We have a Zero Carbon Act
It is a week of momentous announcements. The Zero Carbon Act has been passed, with votes of 119 to 1 in favour.
Another significant vote
Competition is fierce in Bird of the Year 2019, and
Genesis is pushing hard for the whio (blue duck) to take out the supreme title. It has been working in partnership with DOC since 2011 to help protect the whio, and has seen a 143% increase in breeding pairs during that time. It is running a campaign called ‘Operation Underduck’, to raise awareness as well as votes. Voting closes this Sunday at 5pm.
Beca sets carbon emissions reduction target
Founding CLC signatory, Beca, has committed to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions by 32% by 2030, from a 2018 baseline. Their target includes the direct (Scope 1 and 2) and indirect emission (Scope 3) from their full supply chain.
Climate financial reporting - call for feedback
The Ministry for the Environment is seeking feedback by 13 December on proposals to introduce a climate-related financial reporting regime in New Zealand in line with the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework, with the goal of helping investors, shareholders and companies make informed decisions. In other financial news, Victoria University of Wellington collaborated on a study finding that extremely hot weather leads to declines in market value of shares on the stock market. And Rob Perry has some reflections on the evolving roles of CFOs.

The state of environmental reporting

The report provides a detailed review of how well New Zealand reports on the state of its environment and recommends steps the Government needs to take to improve the system.
Reporting corner
It's member review time, and this afternoon Alison Herft was totally engrossed in the Agrecovery 2018-2019 report, saying "it's a great snapshot of the organisation’s vision and purpose, with clear explanation of what product stewardship is, and their role is making this work for New Zealand.".
