BEC2060 Energy Scenarios
The BusinessNZ Energy Council has partnered with the public and private sectors to develop two different possible scenarios about New Zealand’s energy future, to help better understand the challenges and opportunities faced by New Zealand businesses and consumers and the role of technology and innovation in the transition to a low carbon economy.
Mercury to complete NZ's largest wind farm
Mercury has committed to build the remaining 27 consented turbines at Turitea, adding to the 33-turbine project announced earlier this year. This will create New Zealand’s largest wind farm at 222MW, producing 840GWh annually, enough to power 375,000 EVs. 
App to make crisis management more successful
Wright Communications has launched a smartphone-based app to replace conventional approaches to managing a crisis, which are generally paper-based and can fail to keep pace with a fast-breaking scenario.
Suncorp invests in wellbeing 
Suncorp New Zealand has recently purchased wellbeing bonds worth $6M. The bonds were issued by Housing New Zealand, as part of its broader Sustainability Financing Framework, and help fund investment in new or upgraded sustainable social housing. This purchase brings Suncorp New Zealand’s total wellbeing funds under management to $20M.
New research on process heat 
Process heat, in the form of steam, hot water or gases, contributes approximately 9 percent of New Zealand’s greenhouse gas emissions, with about 60 percent of the energy required provided by fossil fuels. EECA have released a new suite of research on process heat technology that doesn’t use fossil fuels, highlighting the opportunities, applications and case studies of how some of these technologies work in real world situations. 
Lincoln University goes solar 
Meridian Energy has partnered with Lincoln University to install a 102-kWh solar array, the largest to be installed at a New Zealand University. The array will supply renewable energy direct to the university’s network, with Meridian planning additional arrays as part of Lincoln’s $8 million investment into renewable energy.
WBCSD holds first-ever TCFD Summit 
The first TCFD Summit was held in Tokyo on 8 October, convened by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the TCFD Consortium of Japan and attended by 300 participants representing government, businesses, investors and civil society. 
Reporting corner 
Westpac New Zealand has released its 2019 Sustainability Report, with an update of the progress they’ve made towards achieving their 2020 Sustainability Strategy goals, which focus on growing New Zealanders' financial wellbeing, taking action on climate change and caring for people and communities. And Toyota New Zealand have released their 2019 Sustainability Report
Fonterra Dairy Woman of the Year
Nominations are now open for the Fonterra Dairy Woman of the Year award. The Dairy Women’s Network established the award in 2012 as a key strand in their support of women in their leadership journey through providing inspiration, learning and education. Trish Rankin, pictured, won the 2018 award.
