2019-2020 SBC Member Review launched
Every two years we assess how SBC Business Members are performing against our member commitments. This year we’ll analyse members’ sustainability reports and integrated reports using the WBCSD Reporting Matters criteria. Details have been sent to Council Members and Liaison Delegates. The Warehouse and ethical sourcing
The Warehouse has announced a new partnership to ensure the safety and well-being of workers in factories in Bangladesh, where it sources some of its clothing and goods. Nirapon is a new initiative overseeing the ongoing safety, training and helpline efforts.  
SBC members standing tall on diversity
Vector was the Supreme Winner at the 2019 Diversity Awards NZ™ last week, demonstrating a commitment to integrating an inclusive culture right across its business. Air New Zealand won the Cultural Celebration award for Te rōpū Te Ara Nui and Catherine Smith, Auckland Museum won the Walk the Talk award. And Downer New Zealand, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, IAG New Zealand, Lion, Spark and Vodafone New Zealand were either finalists or highly commended.    
Boosting solar and EVs
Vector and Watercare have announced they will build New Zealand’s largest solar array, to float on top of the Rosedale wastewater treatment pond near the Northern Motorway.

Terra Moana helping seafood businesses play fair
Businesses in the seafood industry can now demonstrate their fair treatment of workers to their global customers. Terra Moana has partnered with Social Accountability International to offer SA8000 training in New Zealand, which is open to those seeking to become certified auditors as well as anyone interested in social compliance and auditing.

Sustainability is one of the big themes of Expo 2020 Dubai. The Expo Live grant programme funds solutions that improve lives and support the spirit of Expo 2020’s theme Connecting Minds, Creating the Future. Funding grants of up to US$100,000 are awarded to projects that benefit communities and the environment around the world. Apply before 15 September
Correction to MfE ‘Measuring Emissions Guide’ 
Last week the Ministry for the Environment updated the 2019 Measuring Emissions: A Guide for Organisations to correct a few small errors. The errors are likely to have overstated emissions for domestic air travel and aviation fuel use. MfE apologises for any inconvenience this may have caused. Contact MfE with any questions.
A vision for hydrogen in New Zealand 
The Government has released a paper for consultation on the challenges and opportunities for building a hydrogen economy in New Zealand, looking at the potential for hydrogen production, export and utilisation. Toyota New Zealand thinks hydrogen vehicles will play a key role in our transport future.
