Growing Better: Transforming land use
The Food and Land Use Coalition has released a new report detailing 10 critical transitions to tackle the climate crisis and feed the world. It says by 2030 it is possible to bring climate change under control, protect nature, ensure more healthy diets for all, improve nutrition security, strengthen rural economies and unlock USD4.5 trillion in new business opportunities each year.

Minding the gap
In a laudable move for transparency, Westpac NZ has taken a close look at its gender pay gap, with help from Deloitte and the NZ Work Research Institute at AUT. It has also identified some ways to address the gap, including increasing the proportion of top management who are women to 50% by 2025. 
Incorporating the SDGS into your business
The SDGs provide a way for businesses to make a difference, even if they haven’t considered sustainability before. In the latest issue of Business Plus, Abbie talks about what she learnt in New York and how smaller businesses can engage with the SDGs. 
Christchurch airports' new budget line
Business units at Christchurch Airport have a new line to meet in their annual budgets. The company has introduced carbon emissions budgets, as a way of increasing awareness of the issue across the business, and prepare for a future where carbon will incur a cost. 
Vector trials new extreme weather predictor
Vector and IBM are trialing new technology that predicts where power outages are likely to occur during extreme weather events, and where trees could interfere with powerlines across Auckland. This New Zealand first pilot will go live in October. 
Voluntary emissions offsetting for business
The Ministry for the Environment has released a guide to help organisations ensure any voluntary offsetting of emissions is done credibly. The guide was developed with the help of EECA, Enviro-Mark Solutions, The Warehouse Group, Westpac New Zealand, Air New Zealand and Mercury. 
KPMG now certified climate bonds verifier
KPMG NZ is now a certified verifier under the Climate Bonds Initiative’s Climate Bond Standards and Certification Scheme, enabling them to help Kiwi companies mobilise capital for ambitious climate action. 
Plastic recycling fantastic
Farmers and growers are achieving record-breaking volumes of plastic recycling through Agrecovery, with a 43% increase in rural plastic coming back for recycling at Agrecovery’s sites, events and via on-farm pick-ups. 437 tonnes of plastic containers collected over the past year are now being given new life.
Sustainability Leadership in a Changing World
Applications are now open for SBC’s Sustainability Leadership Programme, delivered by Catapult, and early bird registrations close on 31 October. Five alumni have kindly shared their insights from this year’s leadership programme. This week we hear from Jamie Henry, the WasteLine Manager for OCS Ltd. 
A helping hand for social enterprise
Impact Investment Readiness Grants, run by Ākina, are for social enterprises and impact-driven businesses to spend on professional services to prepare for investment. Encourage an impact-driven business you know to apply for a grant of up to $20,000. Applications close Friday 20 September. 
Team New Zealand leaning in to wind power
The Genesis School-Gen programme will help students to discover how Emirates Team New Zealand’s new mono-foiling boat will reach speeds of almost 95km/hr, using the power of wind. New science, technology, engineering and maths resources “Harnessing the Power of the Wind,” which has a science focus, and “Measuring Wind Power,” with a maths focus, are now live on the School-gen website (Level 3-4 tab).
