NZ's first electric rubbish truck 
The Southern Hemisphere's first electric side-loader rubbish truck hit the road in Christchurch this week. Batteries power every function of the Waste Management truck, including the lifting-arm, motor and computer that tells the driver what street to travel down. 
Super Fund cuts investments in carbon
The NZ Superannuation Fund has nearly achieved its goal to reduce it exposure to carbon reserves by 40 per cent, well ahead of its 2020 target. Super Fund chief executive Adrian Orr told a Parliamentary Select Committee that carbon represents a risk to its investments, and is underpriced.
Low emissions contestable funding 
EECA has announced the latest round of contestable funding for low emissions vehicles. $4 million is available to help fund projects that support the uptake of electric vehicles. EECA has also announced a new fund for larger scale projects, which reduce emissions from process heat. 
The Guardian's top trends for 2018  
The Guardian has released its picks for the top global trends in sustainable business in 2018. They think corporations will make more bold commitments, renewable energy costs will continue to fall and competition in the battery market will increase. 
World Resources Institute Ross Prize for cities
The World Resources Institute is seeking submissions from visionary groups – public, private and local – who have led transformative projects that create ripple effects on social, economic and environmental outcomes. More details on the Ross Prize here.
Caring for life on land 
In this week's Sunday Star-Times article based on a UN Sustainable Development Goal, the focus is on a small organic juice company called Almighty. The company donates a proportion of its sales to organisations that educate children about food, and staff get half a day every week to work in a local school or community garden. 
Job alert 
SKYCITY is looking for a community investment and development manager, following the release of its new strategy,  "Building Communities by Developing People". The role will be focused on community and youth development.
