How do NZ companies stack up in the business of sustainability? SBC executive director, Abbie Reynolds, has recently returned from Switzerland, where she attended a World Business Council for Sustainable Development annual meeting and discovered a number of SBC members are attracting considerable attention offshore. Meridian backs the Carbon Zero Act
Check out this opinion piece by Meridian Energy's CEO, Neal Barclay, explaining why the company believes the Carbon Zero Act presents big opportunities for business in NZ. "We’ve got the Kiwi ingenuity to solve the problems, and the skills to test solutions and collaborate. The time to lead is now."
Auckland Council offering green bonds  
Auckland Council will next week become the first council in NZ to offer Green Bonds to investors. It will help buy more electric trains and equipment. The proceeds of the $200 million offer are intended to be allocated in accordance with Auckland Council’s Green Bond Framework. Auckland Mayor Phil Goff says, “This sends a signal that Auckland is committed to becoming greener and tackling our environmental challenges".
Contact initiative aims to recruit more women
Young women who are interested in entering a trade are getting some hands-on experience today, doing work experience in Contact Energy’s dam operations in Clyde. It's part of the Connexis "Girls with Hi-Vis" initiative. About 40 women attended the event  last year and, as a result, Contact Energy’s Jennifer McLean says half a dozen women are now doing training or apprenticeships.
Upcoming elections - Advisory Board + FLP Alumni 
It's nearly SBC election time! The nomination period for the SBC Advisory Board and Future Leaders' Alumni representative will run from 16 - 25 July, and voting from 23 July - 8 August. An announcement of the results will happen at SBC's Annual Council Meeting on 15 August. Please keep an eye on your inbox for further details.
