Diverting food waste from landfills can help companies reduce their GHG emissions. Courtney Simpson, Group Manager Environment tells us how SKYCITY saved the equivalent of 142 buses of food waste from going to landfill.

Low-carbon transport by 2050 is possible 
...with tradeoffs. In a new report, thinkstep presents four future visions where New Zealand can reduce the carbon footprint of transport by up to 90% of 2015 levels by 2050 through a combination of new vehicle technologies and behavioural changes. 
What happens to old batteries? 
More electric vehicles means more lithium-ion batteries - but then what? Vector have convened a Battery Leaders Group, including Toyota NZ and Waste Management, to find circular economy solutions for batteries when they reach the end of their lives.

4Sight Consulting have recently acquired Burton Planning Consultants, boosting their capacity to provide services to the energy sector. Part of the Climate Leaders Coalition, they have also been CEMARS certified for 8 years now, which helps them better monitor their emissions and identify efficiencies. All of which is good reason for cake!
YWCA Equal Pay Awards 2018 
Congratulations to the SBC members recognised at the YWCA Equal Pay Awards last night - Vodafone New Zealand taking out the Leadership and Supreme Winner awards, Meridian Energy winning the Progressive award, Genesis Energy acknowledged for being On the Journey and Auckland War Memorial Museum for the Community award. Hosted by Fonterra.

EnergyTS clean up again
A regular volunteering day for EnergyTS staff picking up litter around Wellington is expanding - in October they had help from Conservation Volunteers of New Zealand, and students from Victoria University of Wellington. CEO Geoff Bennett has invited SBC members to join them next time. 
Focus on reporting
The Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research annual report includes science highlights showing their contribution to New Zealand in land, environment, biosecurity and biodiversity. And entries are now open for the Australasian Reporting Awards - 2019, with Integrated Reporting and Sustainability categories. Last year Sanford, Z Energy, Meridian Energy, Kiwirail, Ravensdown and Vector were either finalists or winners.
