Suffrage 125: Celebrating female energy 
Sky City, Vector and Auckland Museum have lit up Auckland this week to mark 125 years since New Zealand women won the right to vote. Westpac and Stuff celebrated Women of Influence at the 2018 Awards. And Teina Teariki Mana, chair of Vector’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, reflects on the state of gender equity in an industry that still lags behind.
Dow Jones Sustainability Index
Congratulations to SBC members Auckland Airport and Meridian, two of only three New Zealand companies listed in the latest Dow Jones Sustainability Index. Inclusion in the index recognises their progress on environmental, social, and governance issues.

Kaitiakitanga in the fishing industry
More than 60 contracted commercial fishers have attended training on New Zealand Fisheries management, health and safety compliance, and adopting a holistic approach to New Zealand’s fisheries. The Responsible Fisheries Awareness Programme is one of Moana New Zealand’s key sustainability projects
Sustainability opportunities in the Middle East 
The Gulf region is one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing trade partners, with $4 billion in annual two-way trade and rising. Sustainability will be a major theme of Expo 2020 Dubai, and NZTE are holding a Gulf Opportunities Showcase during October in Hamilton, Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington.  
Maori Climate Commissioner 
The Māori Carbon Foundation has appointed Donna Awatere Huata as the inaugural Māori Climate Commissioner, to provide independent Māori-focused research and advice that will help Aotearoa reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% below 2005 levels by 2030 in line with the 2015 Paris Agreement. 
New member profile: Lumus 
Lumus is developing an open sustainability transformation model for business – the pilot has already shown significant improvements in greenhouse gas emissions, operational improvements and a better work environment. Contact Herman Potgieter to be involved in the ongoing refinement of the framework. 
Changes at SBC
Congratulations to Rachel Depree, our Climate Change Manager who is joining Zespri International in a new role as Head of Sustainability. Many of you will have worked with Rachel, who was instrumental in launching the Climate Leaders Coalition, and will miss her as much as we will. We look forward to welcoming Kate Alcock back from maternity leave. She’ll return part-time in October.
