Composting, sustainable landfills & electric trucks
This week in our anniversary celebrations we feature an interview with Tom Nickels, Managing Director of Waste Management talking about what he has seen in 20 years of sustainable business. Waste Management, along with Living Earth, was a founding member of the NZBCSD and have recently become the first company in the waste industry to be CEMARS certified. We appreciate your leadership and onging support. 
Native trees get the star treatment
This week, employees from Vector and their partners Northpower, Electrix and Treescape planted approximately 15,000 native trees in Manurewa’s Totara Park, at the headwaters of the Puhinui Stream. Vector’s Urban Forest promise sees the company planting two native seedlings for each dangerous or obstructive tree removed to protect people and the power network. 
Climate Reality report-back
Oxygen Consulting, Meridian Energy and Enviro-Mark Solutions all sent team members to the Climate Reality Leadership Training last week. Sarah Holden from Oxygen reported back on days one, two and three. And Meridian CFO Mike Roan says it’s time to step up.  
Sustainable Brands conference
Our very own Alison Herft, as well as Josephine Rudkin-Binks from Enviro-Mark Solutions went to the Sustainable Brands conference in Detroit last week. Josephine filed regular reports via YouTube, and we'll have an interview with Alison reflecting on key insights next week. 
Purpose, authenticity good for brands
Brands with purpose were high on the agenda at Sustainable Brands, and Unilever have seen their 28 Sustainable Living Brands – those taking action to support positive change for people and the planet – grow 69% faster than the rest of their business. And recent research found ecostore to be the most authentic brand in New Zealand.
BYO containers for Countdown
To help customers reduce plastics use, Countdown now accepts BYO containers for food sold over-the-counter in its Christchurch, Amberley, Kaiapoi, Rangiora and Rolleston stores, as well as Auckland’s Mt Eden and Mt Roskill Countdown supermarkets, ahead of a national roll-out coming soon. 
Auckland Council declares climate emergency
Auckland Council has formally and publicly recognised the urgency for action on climate change by declaring a climate emergency. Auckland has been leading the way for local government as the only council in the Climate Leaders Coalition, now at 97 members.
