Mobilising our most ambitious businesses
We held our 2020 Annual Council Meeting this week, where we heard from Transpower, DB Breweries and The Warehouse Group, as well as Karen Silk, Advisory Board Chair, and Mike Burrell - highlights are coming soon. We also published our Annual Snapshot with an update on our activities in 2019/20. 
Strategy launch highlights
Last week, we launched our new five-year strategy. The highlights video from the event is now online - keep an eye out for this on social and please share with your colleagues, networks, pets, etc. Learn more about how we will implement our three pillars at a webinar on 15 October - event listing below. 
2020's vision 
Engineering New Zealand recently interviewed Mike Burrell on the topic of Will Covid-19’s economic disruption catalyse a more resilient and sustainable New Zealand? Also featured in the article are SBC members Beca and a project at Christchurch International Airport.
How top NZ corporates report on climate change 
New Zealand’s top 30 corporations could do more when reporting on climate change compared with similar Australian and Fortune Global 500 companies, according to research by Massey University, writes Jagadish Thaker for The Conversation
AUT's sustainability course recognised 
The course “Ethics, Responsibility and Sustainability” has been awarded the “2020 Ideas Worth Teaching Award” by the US-based Aspen Institute. Part of the Bachelor of Business degree, the undergraduate course provides students with the tools to evaluate and address ethical issues at an individual and organisational level and examines different approaches to doing business in a socially and environmentally responsible way.    
Concrete industry strengthens environmental commitment with growing collection of EPDs
Firth Industries – part of the Fletcher Building Group – published its first Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and launched an environmental and design calculator EC3 with the help of thinkstep-anz in a move to better understand the environmental impacts of its products and help customers to lower theirs.   
Lifting youth employment
As an impact enterprise, 3R is always looking to see how its programmes can increase not just environmental impact but social impact too. It has started working with LIFT, a youth employment social enterprise, dismantling child car seats through the SeatSmart programme.  
Have your reporting recognised in 2021
Entries are now open for the Australasian Reporting Awards, and close on 30 November 2020. Enter your organisation’s annual report to benchmark your report against world best practice - and your peers, and gain access to constructive feedback and helpful advice on your report. 
Got a great idea for glass recycling? 
Applications for project funding from the Glass Packaging Forum are now open, until 31 October. The GPF considers applications for projects which improve outcomes for glass bottles and jars through recycling and reuse, as well as for alternative uses for glass when recycling or reuse is not possible, and research.
