Westpac NZ and Contact Energy agree first sustainability-linked loan
The $50 million, four-year sustainability-linked loan facility is the first such loan issued by Westpac NZ and one of the first of its kind in New Zealand. Contact Energy will receive a discounted interest rate if it meets ambitious targets linked to its ESG rating determined by the independent ratings agency RobecoSAM.
How to limit carbon emissions from new houses
The biggest impact could be through reducing energy use, according to a new study from Massey University and BRANZ. The study identifies ways of reducing the carbon footprint of New Zealand's housing using a carbon budgeting approach and life cycle analysis.  
Climate the leading issue for directors in 2020
The Institute of Directors has released its Top Five Issues for Directors in 2020 and on top of the list is climate action. The remaining issues are purpose, data and privacy, reputation and trust, and board leadership/stewardship. 
Biosecurity Business Pledge 
More than 50 New Zealand companies have signed a first-of-its-kind pledge to protect New Zealand from pests and diseases. The Biosecurity Business Pledge sees businesses including ANZCO, Auckland Airport, Countdown, Fonterra, LIC, Silver Fern Farms, Synlait and Zespri making a commitment to more actively integrate biosecurity into their business activities and supply chains.
Toyota plans hydrogen city 
Toyota plans to build a prototype “city” of the future at the base of Mt Fuji in Japan. The Woven City will be a fully connected ecosystem powered by hydrogen fuel cells, and will house full-time residents and researchers who will be able to test and develop technologies such as autonomy, robotics, personal mobility, smart homes and artificial intelligence in a real-world environment.  
Apply for funding for glass recycling projects 
If you are working on a project which will improve glass recycling, applications for the next round of funding from the Glass Packaging Forum open on 1 February. Port Marlborough recently received a grant to install a dedicated recycling hub at the Havelock Marina.
