We welcome Mike Burrell
After a transition out of MFAT and a well-earned summer holiday, Mike Burrell has now started as our new Executive Director, based in the Wellington office. SBC members will get a chance to meet Mike at our What's ahead for Sustainability in 2020 event on Thursday 30 Jan - we look forward to seeing you there.  
I sing the bus electric
Vector and Auckland Transport will carry out a feasibility study to assess the impact of a fully electric bus fleet on the Auckland electricity network. This follows AT's commitment to have all new buses in Auckland being electric from 2025, with the whole fleet fully electric by 2040.
Davos dominated by sustainability issues
The theme of the 50th World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting this week is: "Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World". For the first time in the history of WEF's Global Risk Report, environmental issues dominate the top 5 risks. And the Exponential Roadmap initiative has launched a 1.5°C Business Playbook
Two new food papers from WBCSD
To support companies engaged in food innovation from farm to fork, WBCSD launched two papers at Davos proposing concrete actions to transform agriculture and shift diets in relation to animal- and plant-based protein. 
Judges for Rainbow Excellence Awards
SBC members make up the majority of the judging panel for the Rainbow Excellence Awards, announced this week. They include: Mike Bennetts, Z Energy; Koro Dickinson, Auckland Council; and Candice Collier, Westpac NZ, as well as awards winners from 2019, Allan Lennie from Fletcher Building and Catherine Smith from Auckland Museum.
Preparing young learners for the future of work
The Productivity Commission has released a report on Educating New Zealand's future workforce, as part of its inquiry examining technological change and its impact on the future of work. It is seeking submissions by 17 February. 
Kiwi kids encouraged to pitch tents this summer 
The DOC and Toyota programme Kiwi Guardians has launched a ‘Curious Camper’ medal for the summer, encouraging children to complete activities like star gazing, supervised campfire building, watching the sunset/sunrise, and listening to the dawn chorus.
