Can we get the heavy transport sector to net zero by 2050? Our Climate Manager, Kate Ferguson, updates us on a collaboration between heavy transport companies to develop a low emissions pathway.

SBC has welcomed the
Building for Climate Change programme announced on Friday, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions during the construction of buildings and prepare them for the ongoing effects of climate change, like rising temperatures and increased rainfall. Find out more at the NZGBC webinar on 14 Jul. 
Working from home helps on carbon journey
AMP Wealth Management is continuing its sustainability journey by going carbon neutralwith Toitū carbonzero certification. Following lockdown, AMP Wealth Management announced a move to smaller premises outside city centres and more working from home - putting into practice advice from EECA that working from home can slash carbon emissions.  
Sustainability in Human Resources 
HRNZ recently surveyed its members about sustainability practices within their organisations, to find out which organisations have sustainability as a core element of their strategy, how involved HR professionals are in sustainability initiatives and what HR related initiatives were most prevalent.
Stirring the pot: Counting carbon with HERA
HERA proves it is not too late to address emissions by calculating their carbon footprint for the first time. thinkstep-anz joins the latest episode in their podcast ‘Stirring the Pot’ to share the experience of working with the company to encourage businesses looking to get ahead on their carbon reduction journey.
Boost for healthier communities
AIA New Zealand has committed to investing half a million dollars into New Zealand communities as part of the new AIA Vitality Business and Community Grant Programme. All New Zealanders can submit their ideas to improve health and wellbeing in their local neighbourhood.
Hiringa Energy sets its sights on transport future
Andrew Clennett is CEO and co-founder of Hiringa, which is developing and building green hydrogen supply and refuelling infrastructure. He tells the BEC Innovator Series that he expects to see a substantial shift towards green hydrogen between now and 2025 as costs plummet, and New Zealand could be one of the first places in the world to achieve full scale, country-wide zero-emission heavy transport. 
New Integrated Reporting Awards for NZ
The CPA Australia New Zealand Integrated Reporting Awards recognise those organisations who have embraced the concept of ‘connectivity of information’ by developing their strategy, governance, performance and prospects to create sustained and sustainable prosperity through Integrated Reporting. Entries close on 31 August and the winners will be announced in October. 
Pre-Election Briefing now out for comment
We have now sent a draft of our SBC’s pre-election briefing to members for your feedback. We want to make sure it reflects your priorities for working with government to drive the sustainability agenda for Aotearoa, based on the key opportunities you identified in our strategy refresh. Let us know what you think at our virtual workshops and 15 min online drop-in sessions on 15-16 July.

It's SBC election time! Last chance for Council Members to be nominated for one of five positions on the SBC Advisory Board, by 14 July (was 10 July). Voting will run 20 July-4 August, and the results will be announced at our Annual Council Meeting on 19 August. Details have been sent to Council Members.
