Public demand for more business action on climate change 
IAG New Zealand has been asking New Zealanders about their attitudes towards climate change since 2018. This year's survey shows clear support for business taking more action on climate change. Bryce Davies, Executive Manager, Corporate Relations has more detail for us in this guest blog

Climate Leaders Coalition is now Two 
The Climate Leaders Coalition held a virtual breakfast to mark its Second Anniversary this week, where discussions centred on the increased relevance of CLC and urgency of climate action. Jo Hendy provided an overview of the Climate Change Commission’s role and plans for the next few years, as well as the continued importance of business input and influence to accelerate the transition. 
Kiwibank now Fossil Fuel Investment Free 
Launching its Responsible Business Banking Policy, Kiwibank Chief Executive Steve Jurkovich says Kiwibank will look at other ways it can use its financial clout to have impact in the areas of sustainability and social good. 
Auckland moves forward on Climate Plan 
Auckland Council has now adopted
Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri: Auckland's Climate Plan. The approach outlined in the plan reflects the uniqueness of Tāmaki Makaurau and embeds issues like equity, te ao Māori and a strong rangatahi voice, as well as a focus on clear greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets for the region, and preparing Auckland for the impacts of climate change.
Seaweed snacks to reduce emissions 
In a step towards a potential solution to dairy farm emissions, Fonterra have partnered with Sea Forest to see if
using seaweed in cows’ feed can reduce greenhouse gases.
Upskill to lead sustainable change 
The Mind Lab has launched a new programme, 
Leading Change for Good - a 34 week postgraduate certificate that focuses on how to lead change that centres on purpose over profit - in your community, your organisation or business, your industry, or even nationwide. The first intake starts in September 2020. 
Reporting Corner
DB Breweries has published its 2019 sustainability report, which highlights the brewers’ progress against its Brewing a Better New Zealand sustainability programme. This includes achieving an 11% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions and diverting 96% of its waste from landfill. 
Rural recycling ‘a must do’ for Government
Agrecovery commends the Government for making the recycling of farm plastics a priority. General Manager Simon Andrew says it sends a strong message to those who refuse to take responsibility for their products and signals the government’s commitment to making harmful disposal practices a thing of the past.

Akina helping us achieve impact
Akina are working with us to develop an impact framework to sit alongside our strategy, to be launched at our ACM on 19 August. Today we held a hui with some of our members to shape the indicators that will enable us to measure our collective impact. We discussed which data we could draw on to report and refine our activities to accelerate climate action and enable thriving people. 
New member profile: Farmlands
Farmlands Co-operative was formed by farmers for farmers over 55 years ago, and its buying power helps reduce costs for more than 70,000 Farmlands shareholders via 82 stores throughout New Zealand. It asks high standards of its workforce and external partners to help it be a progressive and environmentally responsible organisation. 
A thriving zero carbon future for everyone
The SBC Annual Council meeting on 19 August will feature a panel discussion on leadership for a thriving zero carbon future for all. Speakers include Alison Andrew (CEO, Transpower), David Walsh (CEO, NZ Post Group), Frances Valintine (CEO, Tech Futures Lab), and Malcolm Johns (CEO, Christchurch International Airport). Register now.
Voting closing soon for SBC Advisory Board
Several Council Members have put forward a nomination for one of five positions on the SBC Advisory Board and voting details have been sent to Council Members. Voting closes at 5pm on Tuesday 4 August, and the results will be announced at our Annual Council Meeting on 19 August.
