Pre-election survey for members
In 2017, we asked members what their sustainability priorities were for business and government ahead of the general election. We are now developing our 2020 pre-election briefing, and have sent out a survey to SBC members. These perspectives will help influence the sustainability priorities on the incoming Government’s agenda and also shape the future of our work programme. We will be publishing a summary of the results well before the election in September.
Farewell to Sir Rob Fenwick
In a statement yesterday, Mike Burrell said that Sir Rob Fenwick has left us with a living legacy. ‘Sir Rob helped lay the foundation for mainstreaming sustainability within New Zealand business. He was instrumental in inspiring others to take sustainability seriously. Testament to this is our growing number of SBC members who have followed, and will continue to follow, his lead. We are privileged to have worked alongside him. We will miss him, but his work will live on.’
Are EPDs right for you?
thinkstep-anz has launched a new microsite, think-EPD, focused on the value of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for business and key developments in this area. An EPD tells the environmental story of a product over its life cycle by considering numerous energy, waste and emissions factors. It is accurate, independently verified and globally recognised. “We wanted to educate people on the development and use of EPDs”, says Barbara Nebel, CEO of thinkstep-anz.

The Climate Change Commission has now published the bulk of the material it has received, including from a number of SBC members and CLC signatories.
Water bird spotted at landfill
DoC representatives recently spotted a rare duck at Waste Management’s Redvale Landfill & Energy Park. The weweia, or New Zealand dabchick, is endemic to New Zealand but is currently extinct in the South Island, with a slowly recovering population in the North Island. Redvale’s stormwater ponds are popular with aquatic birds.
