SBC out and about
The next SBC Advisory Board meeting will be in Auckland on Tuesday 10 November. Mike Burrell will be speaking at the closing session of the Climate Change and Business Conference on 12 November, and at the Tourism Summit Aotearoa on 17 November.
Toitū launches carbon assess twofer
Toitū Envirocare has now launched its carbon assess platform, which will help small businesses measure their carbon emissions cheaply and easily, and let large businesses keep tabs on total emissions across their New Zealand supply chain.
Counting down on hidden emissions
Countdown is slashing the greenhouse gas emissions generated in supermarkets by making changes with impact behind the scenes, such as using better refrigerants, and cutting food waste by asking customers to love odd-looking fruit and vegetables, with The Odd Bunch
Sustainable Finance: A Roadmap for Action
The Aotearoa Circle Sustainable Finance Forum has launched a roadmap for action that sets out what New Zealand needs to do to build a sustainable financial system by 2030. SBC members were among those commenting in the NZ Herald coverage. Bridget Coates, chair of the Fonterra Sustainability Panel, and Ross Pennington, of Chapman Tripp, have now joined the Sustainable Finance Forum as new co-chairs. 
Fill 'er up
To help reduce packaging waste with bulk formats and refill solutions, ecostore has expanded its refill offering to eight additional stores in the South Island – and has introduced the first ecostore refill station in a North Island supermarket, at New World New Lynn, Auckland.
New global criteria for sustainable business
At the recent AGM of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, member businesses voted for stronger criteria to be a member of WBCSD, focusing on three priority sustainability challenges: climate emergency, nature loss and inequality. These align very well with SBC's new strategy and our member commitments. 
Have your say on border closures and skills
BusinessNZ is seeking feedback on the impacts on business of the border closure due to Covid-19, border exemption process and criteria, and immigration settings - please complete the survey by Friday 6 November.  
Reporting corner 
Two big sustainability reports are out this week, with Fonterra and Air New Zealand both reporting using the Global Reporting Initiative guidelines and showing where they are contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Sustainability showcase: LIC
WEBINAR: Thursday 26 November, 12 – 1pm
Hear from SBC’s new Board members about their work to embed sustainability across their businesses. At our second showcase, Wayne McNee (CEO) and Tony Fransen (Environment and Animal Welfare Manager) of LIC will lead a discussion about how they’re embedding sustainability across the dairy industry and what they’ve learnt from their journey so far.
