Introducing our board: Alice Andrew
Before last week's Advisory Board meeting, Mike Burrell sat down with Alice Andrew, Director of 4Sight Consulting, and one of our new board members, to talk about how 4Sight Consulting’s approach to sustainability has changed due to Covid and the role of SBC and CLC to influence government policy. Watch the full interview.
Climate top of agenda for sustainable businesses
“2020 vision” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, but we still need clear vision when it comes to managing climate change. In this piece for EMA Northern's BusinessPlus, Mike Burrell outlines how partnerships are key to making that happen.
Join our team
It's an exciting time for SBC and the Climate Leaders Coalition. We have created a number of new roles to help roll out our revamped strategies. What's more, Kate Ferguson is heading off on maternity leave soon, and Deb Bougen is moving over within BusinessNZ to focus on the BusinessNZ Energy Council and Export NZ. So if you have skills (or know anyone who does) in climate leadership, communications or keeping a team running smoothly, apply by 30 November.
SBC out and about
This week, Mike Burrell spoke to the Tourism Summit Aotearoa about why sustainability will be crucial for tourism going forward, and also to Local Government New Zealand about our briefing on climate priorities.

Tilting at windfarms a better prospect
The Waipipi windfarm in South Taranaki, operated by Tilt Renewables, has started generating 100% renewable, zero-emissions electricity for Genesis Energy. Once the windfarm is fully operational, the generation will equate to a reduction of up to 250,000 tonnes of carbon.
Steinlager goes carbon zero
Steinlager, brewed by Lion, is now New Zealand’s first major beer brand to be Toitū carbonzero certified, building on what Lion has learnt from The Fermentist sustainable brewery. Every step in Steinlager’s product life cycle has seen emissions reduced or offset, from growing the hops and barley, making the beer at the brewery, to bottles, caps, packaging and transport, and the time the beer is in the consumer’s fridge.
