Start the year with your SBC colleagues
Register now for our start of year networking event on Wednesday 27 January in

Go electric to Auckland Airport
South Auckland’s first fully electric bus service has been introduced by Auckland Transport, with Auckland Airport and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency. From January 24, the new AirportLink service will connect Manukau and Auckland Airport via Papatoetoe.
A head start for young people in the workforce
The Mind Lab offers the HeyFuture! course - a two-week programme to establish work-ready skills and real-life job opportunities for 18-22 year olds. Full scholarships are available if needed. 
What’s the overall impact of your packaging?
While milk and juice cartons cannot be recycled in many parts of New Zealand, their overall impacts may be lower than you thought. Tetra Pak asked thinkstep-anz to carry out a Life Cycle Assessment looking at all factors from manufacture to disposal. Read more in this article by Stuff.
Still a chance to be recognised for reporting
It’s not too late to enter the 2021 Australasian Reporting Awards. Due to Covid-19, the closing date for entries has been extended to the end of January. Entrants are eligible for a feedback session with an ARA Adjudicator to find out how effectively your report communicates.
2021 Sustainability Leadership Programme
Roger Robson-Williams at Plant and Food Research accelerated an 18-month carbon emissions project to completion in just three months, due to the influencing skills he picked up during the 2020 SLP Sustainability Leadership Programme. Apply now for the 2021 intake, or join our taster session on 5 February to hear more.

The draft first package of advice will lay out the pathways needed to reach net zero emissions by 2050. It includes the country’s first three emissions budgets and guidance on the direction of the first emissions reduction plan.

Save the date: Better Futures Report Launch Event

Open to SBC members. Developed in partnership with SBC and Colmar Brunton, the Better Futures report takes a deep dive into the social and environmental issues that matter the most to Kiwis. Climate Emergency – what’s next for our cities?

The first NZGBC Future Thinkers event of the year will be a panel discussion on the recent declaration of a climate emergency here in Aotearoa and what this means for our cities, covering carbon and buildings, water sensitive urban design, transport, and construction and demolition waste.
