SBC and CLC respond to ERP  

Wednesday marked an important milestone, as we submitted our joint CLC/SBC response to the Government’s Emissions Reduction Plan discussion document. A huge thank you to everyone who engaged and contributed to the response over the last few weeks. Mike Burrell talks about where to next with the ERP in his latest update.  

Waiting for the green light 

On 3 December, New Zealand will move to the new Traffic Light System for managing Covid-19 in the community, and vaccine passes will be needed to access many places. The website clearly explains the framework, and government also provides support and guidance for workplace vaccine requirements. The Workshop has a useful guide for talking about vaccinations in the workplace.

Welcome to Alana Douglas

We are pleased to welcome Alana as our new Events Manager, bringing several years’ experience in both public and private sectors, and from large scale conferences to community-led events and workshops. Before joining SBC, Alana spent several years at Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities, developing events processes, working on projects and campaigns and Government announcements.

L'Oreal supports neuroscience     

Otago-based neuroscientist Dr Olivia Harrison has been awarded the 2021 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science fellowship to further her research into understanding anxiety, and how the way we perceive mental health can in turn influence our response.

Awareness not matched by action

Stuff's latest NowNext survey of more than 10,000 Kiwis uncovered that while we are aware immediate changes are necessary to reduce climate change, many aren't taking the required action to meet that change.

Native forests good for carbon

New research by Tane’s Tree Trust scientists proves the value of native reforestation to carbon sequestration. While most previous research has focused on radiata pine, the research found the difference between well-managed planted native forest and radiata pine was closer that had been thought. 

Join the HEAT Taskforce

The HEAT working group is a SBC member collaboration focused on industrial process heat. The group will present a collective voice in government advocacy, share knowledge to champion successful projects, collaborate on fuel switching and explore innovation. Climate Disclosures submission

A group of SBC/CLC members supported a submission to the XRB on the Climate-Related Disclosures Governance and Risk Management Consultation document, with broad agreement across members for the sensible nature and sound approach of the document. 

WHO on climate change and health

WBCSD has prepared a summary for business of the World Health Organization's COP26 Special Report on Climate Change and Health that highlights opportunities for private sector action. 

Reporting corner

Lyttelton Port Company’s Leading the Way strategy is moving to an integrated reporting model. And Sanford has released “Horizons”, their Integrated Report for FY21.

Join Professor Jan Peter Balkenende (Prime Minister of the Netherlands 2002-10; Chair of the Dutch Sustainable Growth Coalition) to explore what Aotearoa can learn from the Netherlands about developing successful partnerships between the private sector, civil society and government, including to ensure a just transition.
