Is NZ ready to roll on SDGs?   

The Auditor General has published a report looking at the Government’s preparedness to implement the sustainable development goals, and it has many constructive suggestions for how to progress on these important areas (including some from SBC).

Seeking CFO insights on climate

SBC, with Toitū Tahua, the Centre for Sustainable Finance and Deloitte, is seeking views on how CFOs see their role in engaging on issues such as climate risk and shifting New Zealand to a lower-carbon economy. The results will be launched at a series of workshops later this year. Complete the survey by 6 Sept

Does your business want to align its emissions with the global carbon budget in the 2015 Paris Agreement? This new series from Toitū shows businesses how to get started on setting a science-based target emissions reduction plan.  

Practical steps on modern slavery   

Oji Fibre Solutions is committed to zero tolerance of human rights violations and has published its first Modern Slavery Statement explaining how it is managing the risks of employee exploitation being presenting in its supply chain. This is being following with in-house training on the issue, how to identify the risks and signposting where to seek advice. 

Reporting Corner   

IAG has released its Annual Snapshot, outlining how it has contributed to the environment, communities and economies of New Zealand during FY21.  And Chorus released its 2021 Sustainability Report outlining how its fibre broadband network will play an important part in New Zealand’s journey to carbon zero by 2050. 

Aotearoa Refill Biz Challenge 

Join Waste Management in getting behind the Refill NZ Challenge. It is saying ‘no’ to plastic bottles and single use cups and gifting the work whānau keep-cups and reusable metal bottles. 

90-year forestry partnership   

Anderson Lloyd has assisted Aratu Forests to negotiate a partnership to use marginal land for native plantings. This will have positive environmental, social and ecological benefits and can be used for carbon trading.
