First carbon zero-certified farm in New Zealand

Lake Hāwea Station has been named as the first farm in New Zealand to have a carbon footprint certified by Toitū Envirocare. Not only carbon zero but carbon positive, the certification process Toitū has undertaken on Lake Hāwea Station is planned to be the first of many New Zealand farms. Watch the beautiful video in which owners Geoff and Justine Ross discuss working towards the carbon zero future of farming.

Bold sustainability ambitions announced on World Earth Day

DB Breweries has announced bold new sustainability targets to source 100% of its energy from renewable sources, to reach zero waste to landfill in production, and to balance 100% of the consumed volume of water that the company uses by 2030. The announcement coincided with the launch of their 2020 Sustainability Report, which outlines further action to ensure environmental, social and responsible sustainability across the business.

LPC sponsors community biodiversity 

Lyttelton Port Company has become the principal sponsor to the Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust, furthering LPC’s sustainability goal of supporting positive biodiversity developments, and committing to higher sustainability targets. LPC Head of Environment and Sustainability Kim Kelleher (pictured, centre) says the relationship is fundamental to playing their part for the environment.

Budget 2021 will account for climate spend

New Zealand will join other global climate leaders in accounting for the climate impacts of new policies in some benefit-cost analyses prepared for the upcoming Budget 2021 next month. 

International: US commits to halving emissions

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was one of 40 world leaders invited to speak at last week's global Climate Summit, urging other countries to follow New Zealand's lead. President Joe Biden committed to halving the US' carbon emissions by 2030. "The cost of inaction keeps mounting," President Biden said.
