Becoming the world's most sustainable meat company

Silver Fern Farms has announced four key commitments to become the world's most successful and sustainable grass-fed red meat company - launching its first range of Toitū Net Carbon Zero Certified Beef in the US later this year; committing to a 'regenerative future'; joining the Science Based Targets initiative; and ending coal use in processing plants by 2030. “There is only one direction of travel for our industry and Silver Fern Farms wants to be out the front leading,” says Chief Executive Simon Limmer.

Sustainable tourism in Wellington

Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) has been appointed by WellingtonNZ as the provider for the Sustainable Tourism pilot programme, designed to make it easier for tourism businesses to embark on a successful journey to a sustainable future. The role aligns with TIA's Tourism Sustainability Commitment which aims to embed economic, visitor, community and environmental sustainability actions into business systems, processes and plans. 

ESP: Service Provider of the Year 

Congratulations to Energy Solution Providers (ESP) on winning the Facility Management Association of New Zealand's (FMANZ) Service Provider of the Year Award for 2021. The award recognises an organisation that has demonstrated market-leading performance in service delivery, innovation, and value for money.

Sustainability Linked Loans 

Contact Energy now has New Zealand’s largest group of Sustainability Linked Loans (SLLs) after converting $305m of bank facilities to SLLs. All of Contact’s SLLs are tied to its performance in environmental, social and governance (ESG) domains. “We have a deep commitment to achieving our ESG targets,” said Will Thomson, Contact Energy’s Corporate Treasurer.

EECA: expressions of interest

If you have a transport project in mind, EECA is calling for interested parties to provide information to identify areas for funding low emissions transport - you can submit your project ideas here. EECA is also leading work to expand the public EV charging network and need to understand how people currently charge their EVs. EU's new legislation to cut emissions

The European Union has unveiled new legislation to help meet its pledge to cut emissions of the gases that cause global warming by 55% over this decade, including a controversial plan to tax foreign companies for the pollution they cause. Most of the proposals build on existing laws that were designed to meet the EU’s old goal of a 40% cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 levels.

Blog: within planetary boundaries

WBCSD has a new blog post as part of their Vision 2050: Time To Transform framework, discussing living "within planetary boundaries." It means that global warming is stabilised at a level of no more than +1.5°C and nature is protected, restored, and used sustainably.
