Ports of Auckland's targets approved by SBTi

Ports of Auckland has become one of just 700 global companies who has had their emissions reductions targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. They are the first port in New Zealand with validated 2032 science-based emissions reduction targets consistent with levels required to meet the Paris Agreement.

Energy Excellence Awards for SBC members
Congratulations to our SBC members who won big at the New Zealand Energy Excellence Awards on 5 May. Flick Electric won the Consumer NZ Energy Retailer of the Year Award, Genesis Energy's Predictive Analytics Platform won the Innovation in Energy Award, and Fonterra's Te Awamutu transition to wood pellets, along with partners Nature's Flame, won the Low Carbon Future Award. Kā pai to our member finalists Auckland Transport, Meridian Energy, and Christchurch Airport.
Unilever Climate Action Plan

Unilever shareholders have voted to support the company's 2021 Climate Transition Action Plan, setting out how they will achieve targets to halve zero emissions by 2030 and net zero across their value chain by 2039. More information here.

Tourism package announced at TRENZ 2021

The TRENZ Hui 2021, managed by SBC member TIA, was held in Christchurch this week and hosted the government's announcement of 12-point plan to ensure the immediate survival and long-term transformation of the tourism sector. The $200 million programme aims to re-set the industry on a more sustainable model for the future, supporting communities and businesses through the transition.

How electrification will preserve our prosperity

A great article in Stuff from Neal Barclay, chief executive of Meridian Energy, discussing why he wants to see more wind farms built around NZ, and why Meridian Energy backs the Climate Change Commission’s draft advice for the widespread electrification of our transport, industrial process heat and other sectors.
