Kiwi businesses continue to prioritise sustainability

Oxygen Consulting in collaboration with SBC, SBN and AUT have today launched the 2022 Insights on New Zealand’s Sustainability Professionals. The research found Kiwi businesses are continuing to invest in and prioritise sustainability by embedding it more broadly across their organisations, but highlights there are challenges ahead. Government announces first three emissions budgets

The National Party has committed its support to Aotearoa’s Emissions Budgets announced by Climate Minister James Shaw this week. Transpower’s debt goes Green

Transpower has launched its Green Financing Framework with NZ$1.3 billion of NZX-listed Transpower bonds receiving Climate Bond Initiative (CBI) certification, and a further NZ$1.6 billion of unlisted and offshore certified bonds bringing the total to NZ$2.9 billion. The Framework is a global first with Transpower being the only grid in the world to receive this certification to date under the newly published Electrical Grids and Storage criteria.

ESP advancing carbon management ambitions

ESP’s acquisition of BraveGen has created New Zealand’s largest energy efficiency and sustainability management solutions software and services business. CEO Lincoln Watson says BraveGen is a natural strategic fit and accelerates ESP’s goal to be a global Carbon Management leader making a meaningful difference in reducing climate impact and the cost of doing business.

Developing future women climate leaders

Future climate leaders in the film, construction and urban design industries are among the ten women selected to participate in Auckland Council’s Women4Climate Mentorship Programme. SBC is thrilled to have Head of Climate Kate Wilson Butler taking part as a mentor in the programme this year. 

Stuff achieves B Corp certification

Stuff is the latest New Zealand company to be a certified B Corporation, and the first media business in the country to achieve the certification. Stuff CEO Sinead Boucher says, “The process to become a B Corp has been a year in the making and we are so proud to have met the very high bar.”

B Corp celebrates 5000-member milestone

B Corp began in 2007 with 19 pioneers and a shared vision of a new way of doing business to benefit workers, customers, communities, and the environment. Today, the B Corp community is celebrating being 5000-strong, spanning 79 countries, 154 industries, and over 400,000 workers.

Fletcher Building launch “Stand up for your mates” campaign

Off-hand comments about sexuality, culture, or gender imply it’s not ok to be who we are. Calling those comments out and standing up for your mates is the focus of a new campaign launched by two Fletcher Building employee networks, aimed at making everyone feel welcome. 

All schools to replace coal-fired heating

The Government’s announced all remaining coal boilers in New Zealand schools will be replaced with renewable woody biomass or electric heating sources by 2025. The $10m investment will reduce carbon emissions by some 35,400 tonnes over 10 years.  

IAG tool highlights climate change impact on customers

IAG’s new wild weather tracker is highlighting increasing climate change impacts on customers. Based on claims data, the tracker shows severe weather is becoming more frequent and damaging to homes and property and is expected to increase. Check out the latest tracking details here

CLC Masterclass: Climate Minister James Shaw on what the Emissions Reduction Plan means for business

With the Government’s Emissions Reduction Plan (ERP) due out in May, join us for a session with the Minister of Climate Change Hon. James Shaw for what the plan means for business. 
The ERP and associated Emissions Budgets will set the direction for climate action through to 2035 in a range of areas including energy, transport, waste, agriculture, construction, and financial services. 
Businesses have a critical role to play in delivering the ERP and this is your opportunity to hear directly from the Minister and ask questions. 
This event is open to CLC signatories and SBC members only. 

    

NEW: Climate Risk Governance Lab Series   

Auckland Central | Four in person workshops from Wednesday 8 June – Tuesday 8 November  

Mandated Climate-related Disclosures hold the Board accountable for ensuring that climate risk is adequately managed. This board-level Climate Risk Governance Lab Series is designed to both empower and enable action, by assisting non-executive directors in their understanding of climate change risk management and the specific roles and responsibilities they hold as influential business leaders.  

The programme consists of four in person workshops  delivered by Deloitte in partnership with Toitū Tahua: Centre for Sustainable Finance and the Sustainable Business Council.
