SBC year in review

SBC has now published our Annual Snapshot, where despite a very unusual year globally, sustainability in New Zealand is still going strong. Mike Burrell has more in his Level 4 video update, including the results of the Advisory Board elections. 

New member profile: DLA Piper 

DLA Piper is a global law firm supporting their clients and communities on their journey to a more sustainable future. Since 2013 they have been actively reporting and contributing towards the SDGs, and are signed up to the Science Based Targets Initiative to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Agreement. 

Recognition for reporting

Congratulations to Fonterra, Sanford and SkyCity for achieving Gold in the Australasian Reporting Awards. Fonterra also won the best in sector award for ‘Resources and Production’ and Sanford won the Special Award for Communication in the Public Sector.

SBC members Rainbow finalists

Z Energy, ASB, Chorus, EY, and Auckland Council have been nominated as finalists in the NZ Rainbow Excellence Awards. The awards celebrate and showcase best practice in the workplace experience of our rainbow community, including leadership, innovation, best practice and collaboration.

Emissions Reduction Plan - coming soon

MfE will release the draft Emissions Reduction Plan for NZ in the coming weeks, outlining how NZ will achieve its climate targets and meet our emission budgets, and ensure that the transition is fair, equitable and inclusive. 


SBC/CLC will prepare a joint submission following a similar process to the Climate Change Commission submission. The process may be affected by the move to Alert Level 4; we will be in touch directly with members when we have more information about the process and timeframes. 

Contribute your waste expertise

The Minister for the Environment is seeking nominations for up to five Waste Advisory Board members, including one chair. The Minister is specifically seeking nominees with skills and expertise in the following areas: carbon analysis, waste industry, and tikanga Māori.
